	The Steiner primary year’s curriculum extending from Class 1 to Class 8 is designed to compliment each stage of the child’s development from the dreaminess of the seven year old to the bursting forth of the rational intellect of the fourteen year old. At the end of their eight year cycle there is a satisfying feeling of completion as Class Eight students study the Industrial Revolution and life in general. They have reached the age where there is responsibility. Although their manner may indicate an attitude of disinterest and lack of enthusiasm for school work, they love a challenge, especially projects and will go to any length to produce impressive results. The student also need an approach which supports the meeting of the inner self with the outside world and encourages expression of their growing critical abilities. As a teacher a different style of teaching is needed. These older children call for an approach which is more democratic but maintains a consistency of boundaries. Even though some decisions may not be popular, there are plenty of forums to debate issues. A sense of humour is paramount. Children need to be more responsible for their own actions and the consequence of their choices. There is a homework schedule which has to be met and projects deadlines. It is now time for aprents to step back and allow students to handle their own excuses and problem solving. They need to develop confidence within themselves and with their relationship with the teacher.
